The Kenton Youth Wrestling team traveled to Ohio Northern this past weekend to compete in the MVKWA Regional Tournament. Teams from Ada, Clarke Shawnee, Delphos, Elida, Lima City, Bath, LCC, Lima Shawnee, Ottawa-Glandorf, St. Mary’s, Troy and Wapakoneta attended the tournament. Wrestlers were paired up in 8-man double elimination brackets by age and weight.
Anthony Hunt and Tim Wilkinson led the team by winning their brackets (3-0) and placing first. Hunt wrestled in the 10 yr. old 76.1 lb – 85.0 lb bracket. In the first round, he defeated Samuel Mattox of Elida by Fall. He then faced Brayden Lester of Troy in the second round and pinned him as well. Hunt finally defeated Landyn Williams of Lima Bath by decision of 4-1 in the finals to take 1st place. Wilkinson wrestled in the 10 yr old 132.8 lb – 142.4 lb bracket. Wilkinson pinned Alek Lambdin of St. Mary’s in the first round. In the second round, he defeated Cole Donovan of St. Mary’s by decision of 8-0. Wilkinson then beat Alden Bowlanger of Ada by decision of 5-0 to earn first place. Evan Elliott (2-1, 2 Pins), Kole Anspach (2-1, 1 Pin), Jayden Mustain (2-1, 1 Pin) and Gavin Sealscott (2-1, 1 Pin) placed 2nd at the tournament. 3rd Place finishers were Christopher DeLong (3-1, 2 Pins), Isaiah Mundy (3-1, 1 Pin) and Karson Davis (2-1, 1 Pin).
The team will be completing their season this coming Sunday, Mar. 5th, in Dayton, Ohio for the MVKWA League Championships at the Wright State University Nutter Center.
